About Quick Draw

Quick Draw is a reaction duel. Two players, two buttons and a signal that could come at any moment. It is the showdown at high noon, without the hats.

How a match works

Each round begins with the words "Wait for it". After a pause of somewhere between one and a half and four seconds, the bar across the middle turns green and shows GO. Whoever taps first wins the round.

The pause is different every time, so there is nothing to count. If either player taps before the signal, that player has jumped the gun and the point goes to the other side. The first to three points wins the match.

Sitting and setting up

Put the phone or tablet flat on a table between you. Each player's button faces them. On a computer, use A and L. For a fair contest, both players should start each round with their finger the same distance from the button.

How to win

Watch the middle bar and nothing else. Do not watch your opponent's hand, and do not watch your own. The change of colour is what you are reacting to.

Stay loose. A tense hand is slower than a relaxed one, and much more likely to twitch early.

Do not guess. With a pause that can be anything from short to long, tapping on a hunch loses far more rounds than it wins. Let the other player make that mistake.

Use the gun-jumping rule. If your opponent is twitchy, your steadiness is worth points without you doing anything.

Reset between rounds. After losing one, take a breath. People who are annoyed tap early.

Reaction times between people differ by only a few hundredths of a second, which is why this stays close. As two-player HTML5 games go, none is quicker to settle an argument.
